Technology
& Infrastructure

Teton Quant operates a dedicated technology stack designed for stable, repeatable, and observable trading operations. Technology is treated as a core function rather than a supporting afterthought.

Data and research environment

We maintain structured pipelines for collecting, cleaning, and storing market data from multiple venues and data providers. Research workflows support:

  • Historical analysis of prices, volumes, and order books.
  • Simulation and backtesting under realistic assumptions for latency, fees, and slippage.
  • Factor and signal evaluation to understand drivers of strategy performance.
  • Performance and risk analysis at the strategy, instrument, and venue level.

Data quality and consistency are monitored to reduce the risk of model decisions being driven by anomalies or missing inputs.

Execution architecture

Trading systems connect to exchanges and brokers through authenticated APIs. The execution layer manages:

  • Order submission and cancellation logic.
  • Venue selection, including routing preferences and limits.
  • Throttling and rate-limit compliance.
  • Pre-trade and post-trade risk checks.

The objective is to execute internal strategies as close as possible to their model assumptions, while respecting real-world constraints such as latency, transaction costs, and venue reliability.

Environment Separation and Change Management

Development, testing, and production environments are separated. Changes to strategies or infrastructure follow a staged process:

  1. Research and model development.
  2. Simulation and backtesting.
  3. Paper trading in a non-production environment.
  4. Limited-size deployment with small risk allocations.
  5. Incremental scaling subject to risk and performance reviews.

Code changes are tracked and documented. Material changes to live strategies are recorded so that behavior can be traced back to specific revisions if needed.

Monitoring and observability

We track operational and risk metrics including, but not limited to:

  • Connectivity status and API health.
  • Latency and order acknowledgement times.
  • Order rejections and error codes.
  • Position limits, leverage metrics, and exposure by venue.
  • Realized and unrealized P&L, including drawdown measures.
  • Utilization of predefined risk limits

Alerts are configured to highlight deviations from expected behavior or breaches of internal thresholds. This allows for timely investigation and, where necessary, intervention.

Security and access control

Access to trading systems, credentials, and wallets is restricted based on role and business need. We apply common security practices such as:

  • Segregation of duties between development and operations.
  • Use of secure channels and encrypted storage for critical credentials.
  • Limited access to production environments and sensitive data.
  • Logging and review of key administrative actions.

The technology platform is continually refined as markets, venues, and requirements evolve. The objective is to maintain a robust environment that supports consistent execution of our internal strategies while managing operational and security risks appropriately.
